The main aim of Junior Diplomat Initiative is to create a platform enabling the students of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies to confront their theoretical knowledge with the real practice of the contemporary world of diplomacy. Junior Diplomat Initiative aims to bring the aspiring junior diplomats close to the reality of their potential future in the world of diplomacy through interactive events, discussions with interesting guests.
The vision of Junior Diplomat Initiative is to develop students’ skills and knowledge through interaction between the students, diplomats and international relations experts.
Background Information & Goals
The Junior Diplomat Initiative Switzerland (JDI Switzerland) was established at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva in September 2013. JDI Switzerland is a partner organization of JDI in the University of Economics in Prague, Czech Republic and JDI in Sciences Po in Paris, France.
Summary of Events in 2015-2016
- JDI Networking Event. Event organized for IHEID incoming students interested in diplomacy, meant to bring people together and expand the JDI Switzerland team.
- “JDI Seminar – Implementing the Arms Trade Treaty Through Diplomacy” with Amb. Jorge Lomónaco, Permanent Representative of Mexico to the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva and Mr. Guillaume Michel, First Secretary.
- “JDI Seminar – Climate Change Diplomacy: The road to COP 21” with Mr Philippe Ramet, the Environment Counsellor and “COP21” correspondent at the French Mission.
- “JDI Youth Dialogue 2016: Future of Diplomacy” Over 80 students participated in the event, a series of panel discussions and workshops organised in partnership with The Graduate Institute Geneva and with collaborating organisations DiploFoundation, Foraus, Geneva Centre for Security Policy and swisspeace.
